What is Design Oxygen?

It is the part or parts of a Design that I find absolutely necessary. “life giving” things that can make or break a design. I will explain.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love Design and Shoes. They are my oxygen. They consume my thoughts, equally. I love the way a great pair of shoes makes me feel. No matter how bad or tired I am, I can throw on a statement pair of heels and feel like a million. The right shoes can make me feel taller, thinner, more powerful, smarter, sexier, and make my butt look better! (So not kidding about that)

Likewise, in design there are certain elements of a space that can make it too feel taller, thinner, more powerful, smarter, and sexier.

In the photo above, you see the use of a barn door. But look how the hardware was place up at the ceiling so that the barn door itself became much more of a statement piece in the room. Like a piece of art, its oversized, dramatic, and makes the space doorway feel much taller than it actually is and when the door is resting on the empty wall space will act as a piece of art. Brilliant.

The photo above is what I like to call “the elephant in the room” in a good way. This art piece is so powerful because its the only piece of this color anywhere in the space. If they had used orange chairs for example, this piece would not be nearly as eye catching. Fabulous.

In this photo, carrying the wood seamlessly from wall to ceiling makes the space feel infinite. There is no visual break to distract the eye therefor making the space feel airy and overly tall. Exceptional.

These are some of the things I will share with you. Not to teach you, but to inspire you to see things differently from the eyes of a Designer a tiny bit obsessed with Design.
